Childhood friends Jonathan Andersson and Gustav Andersson had always experimented with different kinds of music making. Starting off with playing funk, hiphop, metal and pop music at school, they eventually found their common passion of 90's euro dance music. Recording their teachers in secret and remixing into a techno song, making art music from sampling doors and toilets, recording acoustic versions of retro game soundtracks, was a few things they did instead of going to their lessons.
Their first project as The Soundstorm (even though the name wasn't invented yet) was secretly remixing a camp song of another student, a project they found in the studio computer at school. When graduating they handed over the cd to the original songwriter who appreciated it a lot, even though she was very suprised.
Few years later the duo met up again, experimenting with different styles of electronic music which soon led to the sound and ways of writing songs that the Soundstorm has today.
Inspiration came from electronic dance music like t.A.T.u, Blümchen, Kate Ryan and 2unlimited . But also other genrers has had great influence such as Gustav's background from jazz and classical music and Jonathan's interest in metal.
Everything from writing lyrics, recording, programming, making drum loops, mixing and mastering to graphical design, photo and webpage, is done by the duo themselves.
Their first song Walk on water, influenced by 90s euro summer hits, was well recieved by friends and family. After that, they continued moving their music in other directions. Collision, with its metal guitars. Space, with the tempo of a contemporary house song. Flower, flirting with the early 90s by combining rap with catchy melodies. All this resulted in an EP "The Soundstorm - EP" which was released on Spotify, iTunes and other music services.
